Netflix Cancels Upcoming Nancy Meyers Romantic Comedy Over Budget Issues

The streaming giant Netflix has pulled the plug on the upcoming Nancy Meyers project.

Nancy Meyers was in talks to direct a film about centered on a young writer-director who falls in love with a producer. The pair make several successful films before calling it quits. 

However, they are forced back together when a new, great project arises, and they find themselves having to deal with high stakes and volatile stars.

The film was being eyed by a cast of heavy hitters like Penélope Cruz, Scarlett Johansson, Michael Fassbender, and Owen Wilson.

Reportedly, Meyers set the budget to around $150 million. However, Netflix put the marker at 130. Netflix to call the deal over lack of agreement over budget. 

Nancy Meyers's last film was 'The Intern' starring Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro.

 Due to underwhelming growth, Netflix has resorted to crosscutting.

In 2023, Netflix canceled shows like 'Mindhunter', '1899', 'Inside Job,' and 'Uncoupled.'
