Daisy Ridley To Return As Rey In New ‘Star Wars’ Film

WRITTEN BY SUMI DEKA

Daisy Ridley will reprise her role as Rey will appear in another ‘Star Wars’ film after ‘The Rise of Skywalker’ in 2019.

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy announced the news at Star Wars Celebration in London on Friday. The film will be penned by Steven Knight and directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.

The project will mark several other milestones for the franchise. Obaid-Chinoy will be the first woman and the first person of color to direct a ‘Star Wars’ film.

Obaid-Chinoy has been a recipient of two Academy Awards for documentary short for ‘Saving Face’ and ‘A Girl in the River’ in 2011 and 2015.

Jon Favreau also expressed his happiness about the project in an interview with Variety. He said that it is satisfying and encouraging when people coming through ‘Star Wars’ come back to ‘Star Wars.’

Knight was supposed to write the film at first. Kennedy then revealed that Patty Jenkins would helm the project and it was scheduled to enter development in 2023.

Disney eventually pulled the film from the schedule and in March 2023, Variety reported that the project was no longer in development.

An untitled ‘Star Wars’ film was supposed to be produced by Kevin Feige. The project was reported to be in development last year but was eventually shelved.
