12 Anime Based On Indian Mythology

12) Berserk The Rakshas mentioned in the anime refer to the antagonists or demons of the Hindu mythology. 

11) Maiden Arjuna The character Arjuna in the anime is based on the Arjuna from a Hindu epic called Mahabharat. Arjuna in the anime has a bow called Gandiva, which is also based on the epic. 

10) Naruto The concept of Indra and Asura were taken from Indian mythology. Indra is the ruler of heaven and all the other gods whilst Asura are people who battle them for control of heaven. 

9) Black Butler The anime is set primarily in England, but it also features India. A character called Agni is a major side character and is based on the Hindu god of fire, Agni. 

8) Dragon Ball King Yemma in the series is based on the Indian god of death, Yamaraja. Both Yamaraja and Yemma decide whether a person goes to hell or heaven. 

7) Fate The demigod Karna in the series is based on the Karna from Mahabharat. Like in the epic, the demigod also has Kundan and Kavach. 

6) Noragami Bishamonten is based on the four heavenly kings in Buddhist mythology. She is a reimagination of Vaisravana, the deity of war and punisher of sinners. 

5) One Piece The Vinsmoke judge is based on the Garud from Indian mythology. Garud is said to be the first bird in history and is the mount of Lord Vishnu. 

4) Hunter X Hunter Netero's strongest attack is based on Avalokiteśwara, the deity who has a thousand arms in Hindu mythology, and in Buddhist mythology, it is based on Guanyin, the goddess with a hundred arms. 

3) Yu Yu Hakusho King Enma in the series is also based on Yamaraja from Hindu mythology. Both King Enma and Yamaraja decide what soul goes to hell or heaven. 

2) DanMachi The character Ganesha in 'DanMachi' is based on the god Ganesha of Hindu mythology. The character wears an elephant mask and lord Ganesha was fitted with an elephant's head.

1) Bleach Captain Komamura's Bankai is a reference to Buddhist mythology. The bankai's name translates to the heavenly punishment of Vidyaraja of Kalasutra. Vidyaraja is the wisdom king guarding the wisdom Buddhas.
