Camilla moved in with Charles to Clarence House in 2003. The Royal Family makes it known that British taxpayer money won’t be used to decorate Camilla’s rooms.
In 2005, Charles and Camilla, announce their engagement, 35 years after they first met. On April 8, they marry in a civil ceremony with Prince William as the best man. The Queen does not attend the wedding. In order to have Diana remain as the only Princess of Wales, Camilla gains the title Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall.
As part of a message released for her Platinum Jubilee, the Queen shocks fans with the statement that it is her "sincere wish" that Camilla should be known as Queen Consort when Charles takes to the throne. A Clarence House spokesperson responds that the Prince and Duchess are "touched and honored by Her Majesty's words."
As of September 10, 2022, following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, Charles became King Charles III and Camilla became Queen Consort.
