Tito Puente was born in Spanish Harlem in New York City on April 20, 1923 to a Puerto Rican parents.

Before becoming the world-renowned musician and entertainer, he was an orchestra conductor with Machito Orchestra at the age of 16. Since his young age, he was interested in various percussion and instruments.

Tito has 118 albums to his credit. His most famous album was 'Dance Mania' in 1958. His song 'Oye Como Va' became the most popular dance number in 1970s.

In May, Puente was hospitalized due to heart issues. On June 1, 2000, he fell into a coma and died that night at New York University Hospital.
