Did you know Meghan Markle worked as a briefcase girl on ‘Deal or No Deal’ before landing on the popular TV series ‘Suits’? Well! You are in for a treat if you did not know that. The Duchess of Sussex, however, quit her job as a briefcase girl in 2006.
In an episode of her podcast, ‘Archetypes’, the Duchess revealed her reason for quitting the job. Meghan’s reason for quitting the job was as befitting as her Duchess status. She carried her royalty when she spoke about how the job helped her in her toughest times but at the same time, she made her point on why it was necessary for her to quit the job.
The Duchess of Sussex reflected that she was “really grateful” that she landed on the job that could pay her bills. However, she felt there was “little substance” to the role. “I ended up quitting the show. I was so much more than what was being objectified on the stage,” Meghan revealed.
“I didn’t like feeling forced to be all looks and little substance, and that’s how it felt for me at the time being reduced to this specific archetype: the word ‘bimbo.’” “I was grateful for the job, but not about how it made me feel, which was not smart,” she said. “By the way I was surrounded by smart women … but that wasn’t the focus," the Duchess said.
“It was solely about beauty and not necessarily about brains,” Markle recalled, adding that a woman kept telling her to “suck it in.” Now that she is a mother of two, Markle aspires for her daughter, Lilibet, to be known for her brains rather than her beauty.
