Salma Hayek Didn't Get Comedy Roles After Being Typcast

Salma Hayek has made a name for herself in the entertainment industry with her acting skills and beauty.

However, she feels that directors have typecast her in most films in glamorous roles.

I was typecast for a long time. My entire life I wanted to do comedy and people wouldn’t give me comedies,” she said.

She further added, “They said, ‘You’re sexy, so you’re not allowed to have a sense of humour. Not only are you not allowed to be smart, but you were not allowed to be funny in the ’90s.”

Hayek portrayed the role of Mexican self-portrait artist Freida Kahlo and became the first Mexican actress to earn a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress.

Despite this massive achievement, things didn’t change for her for a while.

When I was nominated for an Oscar, the types of roles that people offered me did not change at all. I really struggled and I thought that was going to change, but no,” she recalls.

She said that things started changing after she met Adam Sandler who got her a role in the 2010 comedy film ‘Grown Ups.’
