Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy turned out to be successful at the box office but no further projects were made in the franchise.

There have been several other projects that are being considered and Warner Bros. Discovery CEO recently revealed that a new series of movies are under development.

The news comes after studio heads Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy finalized a deal with Freemode, a division of Swedish entertainment company Embracer Group.

Warner Bros. will produce some movies with New Line Cinema and Freemode explaining the world and characters of Middle-Earth.

New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. are currently working on an anime based on The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim.

The price of the deal and the creative team has not been disclosed until now but Jackson along with Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens stated that the company has not spoken to them about the deal so far.

Apart from the movies, the books written by J.R.R. Tolkien have been already adapted in different forms for the big and small screen.

The original trilogy was released from 2001 to 2003 and it featured an ensemble cast. The entire franchise has grossed around $2 billion at the box office.
