Did Tom Cruise Try To Introduce Seth Rogan To Scientology?

Tom Cruise is undeniably a charismatic and successful global movie star, the last of his generation. When he’s not out there defying gravity and other principles of physics, he likes to talk to people about Scientology and get people to follow the faith. Or so was Seth Rogan‘s experience.

In his memoir ‘Yearbook,’ funnyman Seth Rogan spoke about his only encounter with Tom Cruise. The ‘This Is The End‘ actor revealed that while discussing a potential project for their host, he and director Judd Apatow got almost roped into becoming members of Scientology.

In all of his output, comedy is a severely lacking genre. Except for his scene-stealing performance in ‘Tropic Thunder,’ Tom Cruise is not a name fans associate with comedy movies. Always the self-aware star, he took to rectify this wrong. This is how the meeting with Seth Rogan and Judd Apatow came about in the early 2000s.

Wanting to do an out-and-out comedy film, Cruise reached out to director Judd Apatow and actor-comedian Seth Rogan. Judd and Seth were invited to the star’s home, where they were to discuss a project worth Cruise’s magnitude. But this meeting took a strange turn.

Talking to Howard Stern, Seth Rogan remembers, “A few hours into the meeting, the Scientology stuff comes up,” adding, “I’m a huge Tom Cruise fan. I see every Tom Cruise movie.”

‘Top Gun’ star seemed to have locked in on the moment, asking, “If you let me just tell you what it was really about, just give me like 20 minutes to, like, really just tell you what it was about. You would say, ‘No f—g way. No f—g way.”

Seth contemplated how his response could affect the meeting, recalling that tension as a “very loaded moment.” Unfortunately for him, Judd Apatow butted in, saying it would be better if they returned to the discussion about cinema.
