Elon Musk thinks TikTok and social media, in general, are destroying the civilization

On Saturday, the Tesla owner put out a Tweet writing, “Is TikTok destroying civilization? Some people think so.” The thread continued, “Or perhaps social media in general.” This sparked an inundation of observations, criticism, and humor on Twitter. Ironically, Twitter’s to-be owner thinks that social media is hampering the quality of human civilization today.

This tweet comes after Elon Musk’s address to Twitter employees on Thursday. He told the employees that he wants to execute the same strategy as WeChat, a messaging app, and TikTok to gain 1 billion users. During the conference, he explained how Twitter can make the app user-friendly and attract engagement by making sure “people are very entertained and informed.” He referred to Wechat, an all-encompassing app.

Musk said, “There’s no Wechat equivalent outside of China. You basically live on Wechat in China. If we recreate that with Twitter, we’ll be a great success.” The SpaceX CEO then continued praising TikTok for its algorithm. While singing its praise, he said, “we could hone Twitter, in the same way, to be interesting.”
