The mother of Chris Rock is now speaking out about her son’s altercation with Will Smith at the Oscars last month. At the Academy Awards, the “King Richard” star smacked Rock when the comedian made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s bald head, referencing the 1997 film “G.I. Jane,” starring Demi Moore. Pinkett Smith, 50, has battled alopecia for years. Rock’s mother Rose is speaking up about the incident a month later. Rose went on to say that she, like many others, was watching the Oscars at home and assumed the scene was contrived at first.
Will Smith’s Oscars Slap Has Been A ‘Nightmare’ For Rock’s Family
Rose realized that when Will Smith began to use obscenities, it was then that she realized that everything was not scripted and was real. Chris’s mother, who is a motivational speaker, told WIS’ Billie Jean Shaw that what Smith did was totally based upon her wife’s emotions. Rose added that Will Smith made Jada Pinkett Smith’s day by going on the stage and slapping Chris. That night, Questlove received the prize for an outstanding documentary feature from Rock. She also shared that while Chris was giving his speech no one heard it. And this is because all were in shock at what had happened at that moment.
“When he slapped Chris, he slapped all of us. He really slapped me”

Rose went on to say that she contacted her son and told him how pleased she was with him for his reply. Many of the spectators agreed with Rose’s perspective. Many people turned to social media after the video went viral to praise Rock for not escalating the situation.

She went on to say that she didn’t believe Smith’s apologies, which he posted to his Instagram account the day after the ceremony, were sincere. Rosalie expressed her regret at the fact that he never apologized. She stated that anything like this should be personal and not something written by the PR reps. Chris’ brother, Kenny Rock, stated earlier this month that he did not believe Smith’s apology was real.
