Cruise, who is in his 60s now, still continues to do exciting things that challenge him. His most recent film ‘Top Gun: Maverick, became the most profitable film of his career.

Now, the action star has come up with an idea that’s out of this world, literally. According to New York Post, Cruise has teamed up with ‘The Bourne Identity’ director Doug Liman to shoot a film in outer space.

The idea was first tabled in 2020 before the Covid-19 pandemic shelved their plans. Both are in talks with Universal Filmed Entertainment Group (UFEG) for a story where his character takes a rocket up to the International Space Station.

I think Tom Cruise is taking us to space, he’s taking the world to space,” UFEG Chairman Donna Langley said. “That’s the plan. We have a great project in development with Tom, taking a rocket up to the Space Station and shooting.” He said that the climax of the film will have “the character [going] up to space to save the day” and Cruise might become “the first civilian to do a spacewalk outside of the space station.” The title of the film and the plot is still unknown.

Cruise’s latest outing ‘Top Gun: Maverick‘ proved to be a massive success. Made on a production budget of $170 million, the film grossed around $1.48 billion at the global box office.

It is also the sixth film in history to surpass $700 million at the US box office, surpassing MCU’s ‘Black Panther‘. The film became the highest-grossing film of 2022 and the second film released during the COVID-19 pandemic to gross $1 billion.

It is also the highest-grossing film of Cruise’s long career. The ‘Top Gun‘ sequel, on the worldwide scale, is just behind ‘Frozen II‘ ($1.45 billion), ‘Furious 7‘ ($1.516 billion), ‘The Avengers‘ ($1.518 billion), ‘The Lion King‘ remake ($1.656 billion), and ‘Jurassic World‘ ($1.671 billion).
