Due to the accusations of domestic abuse, Johnny Depp lost many projects including the recent Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore. However, the supporters of Johnny Depp have retained a petition to sack Amber Heard from Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

Due to the ongoing Johnny Depp Vs. Amber Heard’s case, social media is divided between supporters of Johnny and Amber. The people in support of the actress have stated the perpetuation of patriarchy and male domination of the industry, whereas Johnny Depp’s supporters are the ardent fans who want, looking at the evidence and the ongoing trial, justice for the Pirates of the Caribbean actor.

The divorced couple has sued each other. Depp sued Amber Heard for $50 million because of her Op-ed in the Washington Post. The actress counter-sued him for $100 million. The actress has accused him of domestic violence. However, the recordings played in the court, suggested that Amber Heard has hit Johnny Depp in an escalated argument. Amidst the trial, Amber Heard will have Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom released in March 2023.

The film will be produced by Warner Bros. The magnanimous production house was also credited for producing the Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets Of Dumbledore. Depp was snubbed from the film due to the domestic abuse allegations against him. He also said that Disney has sacked him from Pirates of the Caribbean. This revelation made the Johnny Depp fans agitated and they started a petition to sack Amber Heard from the Aquaman sequel on change.org.

The ongoing trial has again put light on the petition and gained traction. Currently, 1,975,643 have signed the petition and the number is rising continuously. The petition read, “Amber Heard has been exposed as a domestic abuser by Johnny Depp… As Amber Heard is a known and proven domestic abuser, Warner Brothers and DC Entertainment should and must remove Heard from their Aquaman 2 film project.

It continued, “They must not ignore the suffering of Heard’s victims, and must not glamorize a domestic abuser. Men are victims of domestic abuse, just like women. This must be recognized, and action must be taken to prevent a known abuser from being celebrated within the entertainment industry.”

Producer Peter Safran Will Not Sack The Actress Due To Fan Pressure

Amidst this, one of the producers of the Aquaman sequel said that they will not bow down to fan pressure to remove Amber Heard from the film. During the podcast Hero Nation, he said, “I don’t think that we’re ever going to react to, honestly, to just pure fan pressure. Because, you know, you’ve gotta do what you feel is best for the movie. We felt that if it’s James Wan and Jason Momoa, it should be Amber Heard. And that’s really what it was.”

With nearly 2 million people signing the petition, it is unclear how much impact it would have on the project starring the actress. But, there may be fans of the sequel supporting Johnny Depp who will skip the film. The recent Harry Potter prequel also received backlash as Johnny Depp was snubbed from the project. The response from the audience was lukewarm. But, the film was more affected due to the transphobic remarks of J.K. Rowling.

Amidst the uncertainty of audience response, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will be released on March 17th, 2023.
