    ‘The Hollywood Sign Girl’ or Peg Entwistle was born Millicent Lillian in Wales. Her parents were notable British actors. Peg then immigrated to America with her father. After her father’s death in a tragic accident, she moved in with her uncle along with her siblings. Peg Entwistle would become an established Broadway star. 

    Eventually while touring with the Theatre Guild she found herself in Los Angeles. And Peg Entwistle hoped for her big Hollywood break since motion pictures had made all the blast and actors trained in music and voice use was what the studios wanted.

    Peg Entwistle Ended Her Life By Suicide

    After facing multiple rejections from the studios and having her contract renewal declined by RKO Pictures, Entwistle was heartbroken. She left her uncle’s home on Beachwood Drive on the night of September 16, 1932.

    Entwistle told her uncle she was heading to a “rendezvous with a friend.” Two days later, a hiker discovered Entwistle’s body along with her clothes and suicide note. Police later assumed that Entwistle used a workman’s ladder on the back of the letter to climb to the top of the sign. And jumped to her death from the top of Hollywoodland’s H. This tragic story remains a tale of unfulfilled dreams in Hollywood that many youngsters face.
