Kevin Feige Reveals The “Only Movie Magic” Marvel Did For Natalie Portman In ‘Thor: Love And Thunder’

The Asgardian AvengerThor, played by Chris Hemsworth, is coming back with the most anticipated fourth solo Marvel movie, Thor: Love and Thunder’. It has pretty much been the talk of the town for a long time. The greatest factor contributing to the huge excitement for the movie is Natalie Portman’s Goddess of Thunder, the Mighty Thor.

But, Marvel had to make her convincing as the hammer-swinging Mighty Thor. Portman needed nearly ten months of training to get in shape for the role that’s worthy of lifting the enchanted Mjolnir. Marvel has definitely played a great role to help her don the superhero suit. Marvel boss Kevin Feige has revealed some exciting updates regarding the matter.

Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster has a significant change in her looks in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’. She will finally appear as the goddess of thunder in the film. Fans are no doubt wondering how five-foot-three Portman becomes the six-foot-tall Mighty Thor. Well, Kevin Feige is here to answer the question. In an interview with Total Film, he revealed Marvel’s small role in Portman’s big change.

The only thing we assisted with was making the Mighty Thor a little bit taller,” Feige said. “That was the only movie magic we used. Everything else was all her.”

Portman previously explained, “I trained for a long time before and during, and I was doing the whole protein shakes [thing]. It really helped prepare me for the level of action that we ended up doing.”

Natalie Was Asked To “Get As Big As Possible” For ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’

In an interview with Variety, Portman revealed she was “asked to get as big as possible.” Marvel wanted her muscular physique to match her comic book counterpart. Now standing eye-to-eye with Hemsworth’s Thor, accommodations were necessary for the bigger, mightier Jane.

She said, “We had incredible stunt doubles who did the really hard stuff, but there’s still a great deal of running and jumping and swords and hammer-fighting. It was definitely helpful to be strong. To have that weight of the cape all day, you want to have some upper-body strength.”

We’d rehearse the scene, they’d see the path, and then they’d build a path that was like one foot off the ground or whatever, and I would just walk on that,” Portman explained. Recalling her experience performing with a deck in the Australia shot of the film, Portman laughed, “They would call it a deck, but depending on the accent, sometimes it sounded like something else. Because we’re all children.”

Thor: Love and Thunder’ opens only in theaters on July 8.
