X-Men 97: Is It A Reboot Or A Sequel To The Original Series?

There is no confirmed storyline for X-Men 1997. We do, however, know that it is a direct continuation of the 1992 series. This suggests that we’ll learn what happened after Magneto and the mutants wished Professor Xavier farewell.

The dutiful leader went to the planet Shi’Ar with Lilandra, leaving everyone he knew and loved to question if he would ever come back. The upside of such a strange anticlimax is that it gives the authors plenty of unresolved questions to address later. Naturally, Professor X’s well-being is of the highest concern, particularly because of the power vacuum he’s left behind.

According to recent statements made at San Diego Comic-Con, Magneto will succeed Professor X as the leader of X-Men and fill the void he left behind. Fortunately, Sunspot, Cable, Bishop, and Nightcrawler will also be joining the team to take on Mister Sinister and his mutant experimentation, as well as the ongoing threat presented by the Sentinels and the Hellfire club.

Expect all of these as well as whatever more themes and ideas the writers are able to include in X-Men ’97. There could be more Phalanx or a story involving the Avengers and X-Men. There are several choices accessible right now, each more exciting than the last.
