    Victor Miller And Sean S. Cunningham’s Legal Battle Puts “Friday 13” Sequel At A 50-50 Odds

    The wait might never get over. The Friday 13th franchise Has a total of 4 movies. It is a horror movie series with Jason Voorhees as the key character. It is written by Victor Miller and directed by Sean S. Cunningham.

    The franchise has been stuck in a legal limbo For a long time. Victor Miller filed a case for the copyright for the first 2 films of the franchise and won in court. Since then the movie is stuck with no possible future.

    Fans want Jason Voorhees back and Friday 13th.  In an interview with CNN director, Cunningham spoke about the odds of Jason’s next appearance on the big screen.

    I think for sure it will come back,” the producer said. “But I can’t tell you it will come back this year or next. Will Jason come back in the theaters? Right now, it is 50-50…Both sides are really dug into foxholes. They’re not going to throw any grenades, but I don’t think anyone is going to call for peace talks.”

    Miller only pend the first two movies of the franchise in which he was just a child. Now the question is who owns the right To Jason.

    Victor Miller’s attorney speaks about the future Of the movie. Miller owns the copyright to the screenplay and even the sequel rights. But according to the court, they can not show the adult Jason.

    Now we can license a remake, prequel or even sequel motion pictures… provided such films do not use any additional copyrightable elements…Miller now owns the copyright to his screenplay, including sequel rights, but Jason can’t be portrayed as any older than in the first movie? Makes no sense. Jason was very much a presence in Miller’s film. In fact, Mrs. Voorhees channeled Jason. And, of course, the first was all teed up for sequels.” 

    Cunningham quoted that there is a 50-50 chance that the movie returning to the big screen. Well, this reassuring statement it is still serving as a ray of hope to the fans.
