“Bridgerton” Season 2 has just defeated its Season 1 in a battle for supremacy. After breaking viewership records in early April by becoming Netflix’s most-watched English-language show in its first full week. Season 2 of the series has now surpassed Season 1 as Netflix’s most-watched English-language show straight up in its first 28 days. The new season of the soapy period series outperformed the previous version with 627.11 million hours watched; Season 1 of the series is now in second place with 625.49 million hours watched in its first four weeks. Netflix’s primary metric for determining a show’s success or failure is the 28-day mark. This counts as four full weeks of availability.
Has Bridgerton Gained Overall Highest Viewership?
Remember that this claim only applies to English-language series; “Squid Game,” a South Korean favorite, still holds the overall championship record with 1.65 billion hours watched in its first 28 days. Season 3 of “Stranger Things” is trailing “Bridgerton” in the English-language ratings. That too with 582.10 million hours streamed in the first 28 days. After nearly three years on the air, the show will return in just over a month, on May 27. “Stranger Things 4” is vying for the crown before (the likely) “Bridgerton” Season 3. Season 2 of the series clocked 66.61 million hours of viewing this week. Hence, placing it in Netflix‘s top ten in 88 countries.
Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey), the eldest sibling and head of the Bridgerton household, was the star this time around in the series. The series is produced by Shonda Rhimes’ Shondaland and created by Chris Van Dusen. Though in a less risqué season that, according to some critics, seemed aimed more at the family-friendly set. That could explain the show’s high ratings, as well as the more than a year of anticipation since Season 1 premiered on Christmas Day in 2020. The guilty-pleasure reality series “The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On” is currently at #2, “Bridgerton” Season 1 is at #3, and “Jimmy Savile: A British Horror Story,” “Inventing Anna,” and “Better Call Saul” Season 5 are all currently behind (and with some distance) “Bridgerton” Season 2.
