“I Lost A Lot Of Respect”: Steve Harvey Expresses His Discontent Over Will Smith-Chris Rock Slap Row

The world is still not over the unfortunate event that took place during the 94th Academy Awards ceremony. During the  Awards Ceremony, Will Smith assaulted Chris Rock when he came to present an award. During Rock’s monologue, he made fun of Jada Pinkett Smith for her Alopecia condition. In reaction to this, Will Smith slapped Chris Rock.

Many comedians reacted to the infamous altercation including Judd Apatow who tweeted that Will Smith could have killed Chris. Kathy Griffin weighed in and tweeted, “Let me tell you something, it’s a very bad practice to walk up on stage and physically assault a Comedian. Now we all have to worry about who wants to be the next Will Smith in comedy clubs and theaters.” When the episode almost is forgotten, the Family Feud host Steve Harvey has brought the topic into the light.

The reality TV host was called to give a keynote speech at Georgia University’s College Of Law. 100 students sat in the auditorium listening to Harvey speak about the entertainment industry, fear of failure, and his new show Judge Steve Harvey. One of the topics he touched upon was the Will Smith-Chris Rock Slap. While addressing the altercation that took place at the Academy Awards, Steve said, “I’m a Christian, but I’m really undeveloped. I don’t have high-level Christianity.”

He further added, “On a scale of one to 10, I’m like a two. That’s the level of Christianity I can work on. You slap T.D. Jakes, he’ll turn the other cheek. Do you slap me? If you sit back in your seat, Jada would have to move out of the way. That’s the type of Christian I am.” He added that Will Smith pulled a “punk move.” Expressing his discontent, he said that he “lost a lot of respect” for the King Richard actor.

The slap cost Will Smith a lot. After the slap, he was awarded the Best Actor award for his titular portrayal of King Richard. He apologized to the audience and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Later, he posted an apology to Chris Rock for his behavior. However, he was banned from the Oscars for the next 10 years. The development of Fast & Loose, a Netflix venture, is stopped. The Bad Boys 4’s development has been paused. Netflix has also canceled the sequel of Bright.
