“It Would’ve Been A Fun Deal”- Josh Brolin Opens Up About Almost Getting Cast As Zack Snyder’s Batman

Audiences love debating who is the best Batman, somewhat because, over the last three decades, we’ve seen Michael Keaton, Christian Bale, George Clooney, Val Kilmer, Ben Affleck, and now Robert Pattinson give six very different iterations and four different franchise iterations. Josh Brolin, for example, could have been on that list.

Recently, Josh Brolin revealed on MTV’s Happy Sad Confused podcast that he was close to playing the Caped Crusader in Zack Snyder’s DC films. He stated, “That was interesting to me. That was his decision, that wasn’t my decision.”

The role was offered to Brolin before the release of “Deadpool 2” in 2018, and he was pitched to play a completely different version of Batman. He said, “It would have been the older, the raspier, for lack of a better word…”

He further added, “Honestly, that would have been a fun deal. And maybe I’ll do it when I’m 80.” The “Dune” actor also stated that he “liked those odds” between taking risks with projects and a role that is “set up to not work at all or to work flyingly.”

He further added, “I’m like, ‘Am I the guy who is going to make it all fail? By the way, who I didn’t think was bad, I talked to Clooney, who still is joking about it and it wasn’t his fault.” The actor also expressed how the director use to love the jokes, “He loves a good nipple joke and that was all [director] Joel [Schumacher]. He didn’t do anything wrong.”

In Synder’s “Batman v. Superman” in 2016, Affleck played Gotham’s Dark Knight, followed by “Justice League” the following year. Brolin previously commented on the Affleck-Batman controversy, telling Empire Magazine that he had “never seen such a global reaction” to a casting choice.

He said in 2018, “I would not want to be him right now. The reaction becomes so personal. It’s like, ‘Fuck this guy, I wish he was dead.’ And you’re like, ‘What? Dude, seriously? This guy is just working like you are. He’s doing the same thing you are. He’s trying to make the best choices he can.’…I want him to kick ass and I want everyone to love it and kind of eat their words.”

Before famously playing Thanos in “Avengers: Infinity War,” Brolin was in the running for the lead role in “Jurassic World” alongside MCU Co-star Chris Pratt.

“With all due respect to Steven [Spielberg], it simply didn’t work out… I couldn’t imagine myself doing it. I couldn’t imagine myself as that guy. And I’m extremely pleased with what Chris [Pratt] has done with it as a result of my decision. I believe Chris is the right person for the job… From a big picture perspective, I think I knew someone else would do a much better job than me,” Brolin said about the Jurassic World development.
