Paris Hilton has been an abuse survivor. In 2020, in her documentary “This Is Paris,” she opened up about her own experience with physical and emotional abuse at Provo Canyon School, a school for troubled children. She opened how her parents forcefully “kidnapped her” because she was a notorious 16-year-old teen. Hilton reiterated the incident, telling two men dragging her out of her house and into a congregate-care facility.

Paris Hilton has been a strong advocate for children’s rights and strives to hinder institutional abuse children face. Hilton is supporting the Federal Accountability for Congregate Care Act. The Act will be a catalyst in forming a “bill of rights” for young people in congregate care facilities. The bill will also find and form a joint commission for research to understand the scope of institutional abuse.

Hilton wrote an op-ed in the Washington Post sharing the stories of abuse she faced during 2 years at four congregate care facilities. She wrote that she “endured physical and psychological abuse by staff: I was choked, slapped across the face, spied on while showering, and deprived of sleep. I was called vulgar names and forced to take medication without a diagnosis. At one Utah facility, I was locked in solitary confinement in a room where the walls were covered in scratch marks and bloodstains.”

The reality star was also spotted in the hallways of Capitol Hill. She met Iowa Republican Senator Chuck Grassley. The Senator is supporting Hilton’s efforts “to stop abuse at facilities that care for youth.”

During the press conference at Capitol Hill, Paris recounted her experience as an abuse survivor. She said, “Today I come here not as Paris, but as a survivor. For 20 years I couldn’t sleep at night, as memories of physical violence, feeling of loneliness, and the loss of years rushed through my mind when I shut my eyes. This was not just insomnia. It was trauma.”

The socialite continued, “I woke up to two large men in my bedroom,” asking her if she “wanted to go the easy way or the hard way.” The experience still haunts Paris, “I was sent to four facilities over two years, and my experience at each one haunts me to this day,” adding that she was strangled, slapped across her face, and subject to other forms of abuse.

She blamed bureaucracy for the lack of “transparency and accountability.” She said, “Every day in America, children in congregate care facilities are being physically, sexually, and emotionally abused,” she said, blaming it on a “systemwide lack of transparency and accountability.”
