Bucky Barnes, played by Sebastian Stan, has been a part of the Marvel Universe for some while. He made his debut appearance with his buddy Steve Rogers in 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger. He’s been going strong ever since. The one-armed figure has gone from being the closest best pal to a misguided adversary and back to being an ally.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, one of the first MCU Disney+ shows, featured the former HYDRA assassin. The program follows Bucky Barnes and Sam Wilson as they were compelled to work together to safeguard Captain America’s heritage.
Throughout the novel, Barnes’ personal journey was to come to grips with the pain and shame. He had to face odds as a result of all he had to accomplish while under the control of HYDRA. The hero had taken some significant efforts in moving over his horrific background by the conclusion of the project’s sixth part. Thus, what follows from here?
As Bucky Barnes, Sebastian Stan Discusses His Future Plans
Sebastian Stan, who stars The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, spoke about his future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In an interview with Radio Times, the 39-year-old actor got candid about his role.
First and foremost, the actor stated that the MCU would “always be a part of [his] life:”
“Oh yeah, of course… mean, it’s been such a part of my life for such a long time, and it’s very nostalgic, and it’s always going to be a part of my life, one way or another.”
Returning to the part of Bucky Barnes is “something I can kind of fall into pretty effortlessly,” according to Stan.
“It’s interesting coming back, you know, going back to a character after so many years because they’re almost like a weird roommate… I feel like it’s just something I can kind of slip into very easily, having played so often, but there are always places to take him and explore.”
Bucky “was facing the past… for quite some time,” according to the actor, who added that he had eventually arrived at a new place at the end of the tv series:
“I think lastly, he had arrived in a really interesting place. Because for quite some time, he was facing the past and there was an identity question and a sort of a purpose question and relearning about oneself… and I think we got him by the end to that place. So it really does become what does Bucky Barnes do now? And look, there’s something to that as well, because obviously you never really stop growing and learning about yourself or dealing with your past.”
Stan then went on to say that “there’s always going to be more to explore:”
“But when someone seemingly has fulfilled certain tasks and has found their way to some extent, who are they then? And so there’s always going to be more to explore. I think, you know if the opportunities allow…”
What Does The Future Hold For Sebastian Stan In The MCU?
With the armor of Captain America now in his possession, Sam Wilson’s next actions in the MCU appear to be quite obvious. Bucky Barnes has a rocky road ahead of him.
Captain America 4 is in the making, but Sebastian Stan’s participation in the film has yet to be confirmed. Though it is the most probable location for fans to see him again. Perhaps he’ll appear in Armor Wars, although it’s weak speculation based entirely on the fact that his arm is a complex piece of technology.
Another option is for Bucky to appear in Hidden Invasion as either the real Bucky or a hidden Skrull agent. Based on Bucky’s experience in his latest Disney+ adventure, his next narrative will most likely revolve around him attempting to be a true hero and understanding that he is capable of doing so. All segments of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier are now available to watch on Disney+.
