Vampire Diaries Star To Play New Captain Kirk In Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is a Series produced by Paramount+. It is now confirmed that The Vampire Diaries star Paul Wesley has joined the cast of the New Worlds series as Captain James T. Kirk.

Wesley will enter the Season 2 crew of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds portraying Captain James T. Kirk, a position initially played by William Shatner in Star Trek: The Original Series. Wesley is best known for his major role on the popular CW series The Vampire Diaries.

Paul is a gifted actor with a commanding presence who will be a valuable addition to the show,” stated chief producer Alex Kurtzman. “Like us, he’s a lifelong Star Trek fan, and we’re looking forward to seeing him play this legendary part.

Wesley is the third actor to take on the position of Captain Kirk. It was first played by William Shatner in the 1960s. The part was later taken up by Chris Pine for the 2009 Star Trek picture.

Wesley played vampire Stefan Salvatore during the whole eight-season run of The Vampire Diaries. Where he also acted as a producer and director. He has starred in the Tell Me a Story series on Paramount+ (previously CBS All Access). He’s worked on programs including Roswell, New Mexico, Shadowhunters, and Legacies as a director.

Strange New Worlds is a prequel to Star Trek: The Original Series, centered under Captain Christopher Pike’s leadership of the USS Enterprise before Kirk gained command. Together with co-stars Rebecca Romijn as Number One and Ethan Peck as Mr. Spock, Anson Mount will play his part as Captain Pike from Star Trek: Discovery. Strange New Worlds will launch in May on Paramount+ and it has already been extended for a season 2, which is presently in development in Toronto.

Jess Bush will play Nurse Christine Chapel, Celia Rose Gooding will play a young Cadet Nyota Uhura, Melissa Navia will play Lt. Erica Ortegas, and Babs Olusanmokun will play Dr. M’Benga in Strange New Worlds, which recently debuted a new teaser. The program is the seventh new Star Trek series since 2017, while Paramount strives to grow the brand for its video streaming service. This includes Star Trek: Picard, which is presently in its fourth season, and 2 animated spin-offs, Star Trek: Lower Decks and Star Trek: Prodigy.

Season 1 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will release on Paramount+ on May 5 and will consist of 10 episodes.
