The 94th Academy Awards better known as Oscars 2022 was the center of some of the greatest achievements. Troy Kotsur, the star of “CODA,” became the first Deaf man to win an acting Oscar on Sunday night when he took home the award for Best Supporting Actor. On the other hand, The Academy and actors showed their support to Ukraine in its fight against Russia.
Amidst all this, something happened which will haunt the Academy for a long time. During the best documentary presentation, Chris Rock cracked a joke about Jada Smith. The seemingly harmless joke did not sit well with her husband, Will Smith who approached Chris onstage and slapped him. People all over the globe were shocked by this event and reacted to this on social media.

The Oscar was going as smooth as it could have until Chris Rock, who was there to present the best documentary award, cracked a joke about Will Smith’s wife Jada smith. Chris Rock in an apparent dig at Jada’s bald look joked about how she might appear in G.I. Jane 2. G.I. Jane was a 1997 film starring Demi Moore in a bald look.
Will Smith himself was laughing at the joke at the start but suddenly decided to walk toward Chris Rock and slapped him. Chris took this in a comic manner as he replied, “Will Smith just smacked the sh*t out of me.” But Will didn’t stop there as he got back to his seat and yelled, “you keep my wife’s name out of your fuc*ing mouth.” After this Chris took a pause and got back to his oscar presentation.

In the aftermath of all the drama, Chris Rock rejected the idea of filing a police complaint against Will as he does not want the matter to escalate further. On the other hand, Will Smith has apologized in an Instagram post, for his unruly and violent behavior.
