O Yeong-su’s performance as the old man in the Netflix hit made everyone fall in love with the character. However, the much-beloved actor is currently in the news for a bad reason.

According to Variety, the actor has been indicted on sexual misconduct charges and was released without detention. On Friday, prosecutors in Suwon, South Korea revealed that he was charged earlier for inappropriately touching a woman in mid-2017.

The alleged victim filed a complaint against Oh in December last year. Authorities closed the case in April this year but reopened it again at the victim’s request, the Yonhap news agency reported.

When asked about it by the prosecutors, Oh denied the allegations. His image has surely taken a hit after the charges surfaced.

In a statement to Korean broadcaster JTBC, Oh said: “I just held her hand to guide the way around the lake. I apologized because [the person] said she wouldn’t make a fuss about it but it doesn’t mean that I admit the charges.”

A Suwon court official said during the hearing that “everything reported by local media is not factually correct.” Following the charges, the Korean ministry of culture pulled a government TV commercial of Oh off the air.

Oh’s role in ‘Squid Games‘ won him a Golden Globe Award for best supporting actor in a series, miniseries or television film, and a Primetime Emmy nomination for outstanding supporting actor in a drama series.
