Miguel Sapochnik has won the Emmy Awards for directing some episodes of ‘Game of Thrones‘ and is a co-showrunner of its prequel ‘House of the Dragon.’

According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Sapochnik is stepping down from the show after working extensively for three years. Ryan Condal will now serve as the show’s only showrunner and continue to work closely with co-creator George R.R. Martin. He will continue to serve as the executive producer while he is in talks with HBO for other projects. Sapochnik has issued a statement explaining his reason to leave the show.

Working within the Thrones universe for the past few years has been an honor and a privilege, especially spending the last two with the amazing cast and crew of ‘House of the Dragon’,” Sapochnik said.

He continues, “I am so proud of what we accomplished with season one and overjoyed by the enthusiastic reaction of our viewers. It was incredibly tough to decide to move on, but I know that it is the right choice for me, personally and professionally.”

Milly Alcock, who portrays the young Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, recently talked about the experience of shooting the dragon riding scenes.

Someone would take you through the moves of how you’re going to move so you could preempt how the [dragon was going to turn],” she says.

Then they would pop you up and they’d blow air at you. It was really fun. But I didn’t know what to do with my face [expressions]. I haven’t done any action stuff. You’re not actually moving, you’re just going to … somewhere.”

Controlling the dragon rig was quite difficult as the show uses huge video wall project backgrounds during stage filming. This is different from the parent show which used green screens.
