Are Disney And Dwayne Johnson Teaming Up For A Live-Action ‘Moana’?

Dwayne Johnson has recently announced a live-action remake of the 2016 animated film, Moana. Johnson will also reprise his role as Maui in the remake.

Johnson shared the news on Twitter with a video. The caption stated that the story will be produced live for the big screen.

He added that Maui changed his life and he is honored to collaborate with Disney Studios. His announcement video featured him on a pristine beach in Hawaii with his two daughters.

The Fast & Furious star said in the video that the story is his culture and the story is emblematic of his people’s grace and warrior strength.

Johnson mentioned that he wears his culture proudly and that the chance to reunite with Maui is something that runs deep inside him.

Dwayne Johnson will be the producer of the live-action film through his Seven Bucks Productions alongside Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia.

Jared Bush will be writing the screenplay along with Dana Ledoux Miller. However, a director has not been confirmed yet.

Directed by John Musker and Ron Clements, Moana was released on November 23, 2016 and grossed around $682 million at the box office.
