Brendan Fraser Reveals He Almost Died While Filming ‘The Mummy’

The Mummy has managed to become one of the most successful and famous film franchises that have released in all these years.

The lead actor, Brendan Fraser, also calls it as one of his favorite but he has admitted that it could have been his last project.

While appearing in the latest episode of The Kelly Clarkson Week, Fraser recalled about one of the scenes, which was the hanging sequence from the first film.

Fraser said that shooting the hanging scene went awry at one point and that he was standing on his toes with the rope around the neck.

Director Stephen Sommers was not satisfied with Fraser’s performance but he asked him to ‘sell it’ and revealed that it did not seem like Fraser was choking.

Fraser said that he was stuck on his toes and had blacked out at one point. He said that the next thing he remembers is that his elbow was in his ear, the world was sideways, there was gravel in his teeth and everyone was quiet.

While Brendan Fraser regained consciousness at one point, he was encouraged by a stuntman who told him that he is ‘in the club.’

The Mummy was released on May 7, 1999 and it was a box office success, leading to two sequels – The Mummy Returns and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.
