Can Prince William Restore the Royal Title Of Prince Diana Posthumously When He Becomes King?

An important term of Princess Diana and King Charles III’s divorce was revoking Diana’s ‘Her Royal Highness’ title. Diana’s son Prince William decided to restore her title when he became king.

William is currently the heir to the British throne after King Charles III. According to New York Post, Diana’s title would have changed if she had been alive when her eldest son ascended to the throne.

The news outlet added that Diana could have qualified as ‘Queen Mother.’ Following Charles’ demise, Diana would have terminated any eligibility for that title.

The title of Queen Mother translates to ‘widowed Queen Consort.’ The title would have been ineligible for The Princess of Wales if she divorced Charles.

According to The Times, Diana gave up her right to be Queen of the United Kingdom after her separation from Charles.

Queen Elizabeth II wanted Diana to retain her title but Charles was adamant that she should give it up. Diana was then obligated to curtsey to others.

The Times stated that Diana would continue to be a royal family member and receive invitations to state and national public occasions.

But it is improbable that William would have restored his mother’s title when he became king as royal titles are not given posthumously.
