Comedian Gallagher Passes Away At The Age Of   76

Comedian Gallagher, famous for smashing watermelons with an hammer onstage passed away on November 11, 2022 morning.

The comedian died of massive organ failure at a hospice in Palm Springs, California. He has suffered heart attacks  since 2011, when he collapsed on stage  in Minnesota.

Comedian Gallagher was born on July 24, 1946 in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He earned a degree in Chemical Engineering from University of South Florida.

Gallagher became a household name after a stint on the Johnny Carson show in 1975, which was followed by a string of comedy specials for the channel.

"Sledge-O-Matic" was a signature stunt performed by Gallagher on stage. In this act, he pulverizes vegetables, fruits and other objects to comedic effect.

The comedian's life and career was not free of controversy. Gallagher allowed his brother to use his iconic fruit smashing act on stage as long as it is under his name. But later the audience gets confused by the sibling's likeliness. In 2000, Gallagher sued his brother for false advertising and trademark violation.

The comedian had a downfall in his career due to his racist and homophobic themes that started being a part of his stand ups. .Gallagher is survived by his daughter Aimee and son Barnaby.
