Kanye West’s Donda Academy Sued For Racial Discrimination

Two former Donda Academy employees have sued Kanye West, his school, and the directors for racial discrimination and wrongful termination.

The teachers claimed in the court documents that they were discriminated against based on their race. It added that their wages were illegally withheld and were terminated in March 2023 in retaliation for reporting code violations.

Identified as Cecilia Hailey and Chekarey Byers, they claimed that they were the only black female teachers employed at the school.

Hailey claimed that she started spotting many health and safety violations alongside unlawful educational practices and the principal Moira Love refused to take action.

According to the documents, the students were offered one meal a day. But they were not allowed to bring outside food except water.

West reportedly spent $10,000 per week on the food and the teachers added that West prohibited crossword puzzles and coloring sheets inside.

Hailey and Byers said that the kids were not allowed to go outside during the day, even for lunch or recess. The school doors were closed from the outside leading to a fire hazard.

The lawsuit mentioned that Donda Academy did not have proper medical staffing and that the children’s medication was stored in the janitorial closet.
