Lupita Nyong'o was born on March 1st, 1983. She was born to Kenyan parents, who shifted to Mexico from Kenya due to ongoing political tension and apartheid. Her father, Peter Anyang Nyong'o was a visiting faculty for Political Science at El Colegio de Mexico
Lupita's family shifted back to Kenya, where the actress found her calling as an artist in her teen years. When she was 14 years old, she starred in a stage production of 'Romeo and Juliet' in Nairobi. Nyong'o completed her education in Nairobi at St. Mary's School with a diploma in IB.
But, in parallel, she kept creating her portfolio writing, directing, and starring in films. She worked on a documentary titled 'In My Genes', for which she lived in Kenya. In Kenya, she starred in an MTV show titled 'Shuga Down South'. After doing few musical gigs there, she returned to the USA for her master's in Yale.
In 2013, she got her big break in Steve McQueen's slavery drama '12 Years a Slave'. The film turned out to be a career changing opportunity for the actress as she received her first Academy Award, Golden Globes for as Best Supporting Actress'
Later, Lupita bagged her first franchise project with the 'Star Wars'. She played Maz Kanata in 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi', 'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker', and 'Star Wars: Forces of Destiny'. Then, along with many A-listers she starred in the Marvel's 'Black Panther' franchise as Nakia.
