Criminal charges against Alec Baldwin have been dropped related to the on-set shooting incident that happened in October 2021.
Baldwin was charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter over the incident that happened during the filming of ‘Rust’ in New Mexico.
Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed by a live bullet fired from a prop gun that was being used by Baldwin.
New Mexico special prosecutors Kari Morrissey and Jason Lewis have released a statement saying that new facts were revealed in the case over the last few days.
The statement added that the decision does not absolve Baldwin of criminal culpability and the charges could be refilled.
Baldwin’s attorney Luke Nikas also praised the move by the prosecutors and said that they are happy with the dismissal of the case. Nikas added that they encouraged an investigation into the facts and circumstances of the accident.
The film’s armourer Hannah Gutierrez- Reed is also facing two counts of involuntary manslaughter. The prosecutors’ statement mentions that the charges remain unchanged.
The statement by the prosecutors did not mention anything about the gun but that the new facts demand further investigation and forensic analysis.
