Musk Warns NPR Of Consequences If It Doesn’t Start Tweeting Again

Elon Musk has warned to reassign NPR’s Twitter handle to a third-party user if the account remains inactive for a long time.

NPR reported that they received a few emails from Musk stating that they would not get any special treatment for being inactive.

The email sent to NPR reads, “Our policy is to recycle handles that are definitely dormant. Our policy is to recycle handles that are definitively dormant.”

Musk and NPR have not been on good terms since Twitter labeled the publication’s account as ‘state-affiliated media’ in April 2023.

The label was considered to be a derogatory tag for propaganda outlets associated with countries like Russia, China, and more.

Following a request from NPR, Twitter revised the label to ‘government-funded media’ which the news outlet did not agree with.

NPR’s Twitter account is still verified with a Blue Tick without labels. But the company has not posted anything since April 12, 2023.

Musk has repeatedly said he wants Twitter to be a platform safeguarding free speech but some believe he has contradicted his stance.
