Scientology created distance between Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman

Former church officer Mike Rinder's book '“A Billion Years: My Escape From a Life in the Highest Ranks of Scientology” has unveiled several things about Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman.

Cruise has been into Scientology for years. In 1997, Kidman tried to convince him to leave the church. The two were doing Stanley Kubrick's 'Eyes Wide Shut' at that time.

Cruise began to ignore Scientology head David Miscavige’s calls while filming in London. This allegedly prompted Miscavige to send Marty Rathbun amd Cruise “was gradually drawn back into the world of Scientology.”

Rinder writes that this process “created a distance between [Cruise] and Nicole” since she did not want Cruise to rejoin the church of Scientology. She had "been brought into the church by Cruise years before but “never expressed particular eagerness for her Scientology courses or auditing.”

“Rathbun worked with [Hollywood lawyer] Bert Fields to hire infamous PI Anthony Pellicano to spy on Nicole and tap her phone,” the book says. Kidman and Cruise announced their separation in 2001.
