Steven Spielberg has been in the industry for more than most people to know how it works and the importance of theatrical release at the time of the rise in streaming service content.

The ‘Jaws‘ director attended at the recently held Oscar nominees’ luncheon where he praised Tom Cruise for saving Hollywood.

You saved Hollywood’s a*s and you might have saved theatrical distribution,” he said to Cruise at the event.

He further said, “Seriously, ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ might have saved the entire theatrical industry.”

Hearing these words from Spielberg left Cruise blushing.

Both Cruise and Steven have worked together on 'War of the Worlds' and 'Minority Report.'

'Top Gun: Maverick' minted $1.489 billion globally, becoming the second-highest-grossing film of 2022.

It also became the highest-grosser in Cruise’s career and is credited for bringing back the audiences to the theatre who were apprehensive about it due to the pandemic.
