On July 15th, 1997, Gianni Versace, the celebrity fashion designer was shot and killed by serial killer Andrew Cunanan.
Andrew Cunanan was a certified serial killer by that time, and was on the FBI's top ten most wanted list.
Gianni was just returning to his beachside mansion in Miami after an early morning run from a nearby cafe when he was attacked by Cunanan
According to FBI records, Gianni Versace was shot twice at the head, at point-blank range by Cunanan.
Versace was at the peak of his career at that time. His assassination also inspired the FX's show 'The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story.'
Versace was not Cunanan's first victim. He had killed four other victims before, and was an FBI wanted serial killer.
Authorities believe that Cunanan's previous targets before Versace may have been related to targetting ex-lovers.
However, the reason behind Cunanan killing Versace is still not known, as there seems to have been no possible relation between them.
