‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Officially Wraps Filming As Marvel Gears Up For 2026 Release

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is heading toward one of its most ambitious entries yet. After months of speculation, Marvel Studios’ ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ has officially wrapped filming, closing out a five-month shoot that brought together one of the most expansive casts in franchise history.

Directed by the Russo Brothers, the film promises to be the penultimate chapter of the Multiverse Saga and the event that sets the stage for 2027’s ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’. With Robert Downey Jr. returning in a stunning twist as Doctor Doom, and legacy X-Men actors joining the battle, excitement for ‘Doomsday’ is already reaching fever pitch.

While fans will have to wait until December 18, 2026, to witness the chaos unfold, recent updates, from behind-the-scenes wrap celebrations to heartfelt cast commentary, reveal just how massive this project really is. Production on ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ began in April 2025 and concluded in September after roughly five months. The timeline mirrors the production lengths of previous Avengers juggernauts like ‘Infinity War’ and ‘Endgame’

Crew members marked the end of filming by sharing exclusive wrap gifts, including T-shirts emblazoned with the film’s logo and striking Doctor Doom artwork. For many, these keepsakes serve as a tangible reminder of being part of what could be the MCU’s most consequential chapter yet. The cast list alone is staggering. Alongside Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, the film features Chris Hemsworth, Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Florence Pugh, Paul Rudd, and others.

It’s a lineup that blends veteran Avengers with newer heroes, ensuring both nostalgia and fresh dynamics. Adding to the excitement, ‘Doomsday’ will also reintroduce fan-favorite stars from Fox’s X-Men universe. This includes Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Kelsey Grammer, Alan Cumming, and Rebecca Romijn. Their presence underlines the multiversal stakes of the movie.

The film will be a collision of worlds unlike anything Marvel has attempted before. Of course, filming may be complete. However, Marvel’s work is far from over. Like its predecessors, ‘Doomsday’ will now undergo an extensive post-production process, with teams of VFX artists bringing to life the cosmic locations and mind-bending powers. If past timelines are any indication, fans may get their first glimpse of the film through a trailer sometime between February and July 2026.

While wrap merch is exciting, it’s the cast insights that give fans a sense of what filming ‘Doomsday’ really felt like. David Harbour, who reprises his role as Alexei, previously talked to SR about his experience on set, and his words only heightened the hype. Harbour admitted he had his doubts initially. However, being part of the project quickly erased them.

I was not even convinced when we started, and this movie’s gonna be really good. They the Russos have a special sauce. I don’t even really understand, but they just know how to do these things.” The actor praised the Russo Brothers’ unique ability to balance tones, blending comedy, drama, and spectacle into one seamless package. He compared Doomsday’s approach to earlier MCU landmarks.

As evidenced in Civil War, as evidenced in Infinity War, there’s something about the layers in which they put the comedy and the drama and the surprises and the scale and the epicness and all that stuff. It’s incredible.” However, perhaps his most striking comments came when he described the sheer size of the production, “I will say I’ve never been on a set like this in my life. I’ve never seen anything like this. You saw those chairs. So it’s like, every one of those guys and girls has a trailer,” he clarified.

“It’s just insane to look around the room and be like, ‘Oh my god, I’m in the movie. There’s what’s-his-face doing that speech.’ It’s just enormous.” Harbour’s awe captures what fans have long suspected: ‘Doomsday’ isn’t just another MCU installment, it’s an event designed to redefine the superhero genre yet again.
