In the glitzy world of Hollywood, where accolades are as coveted as red-carpet gowns, Greta Gerwig takes the Oscars snub with a pinch of salt. The director of 2023’s biggest box office hit ‘Barbie’ is not as butthurt about the Academy Award as people would have assumed.
In the list of this year’s Academy Award nominations, the fans failed to find a couple of names. The names being, Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig, two women who put their soul into last summer’s pink hit. While many big names of the industry expressed their displeasure at the unfairness of the academy panel the subjects of the argument are pretty fine with it.
Greta Gerwig Is Counting Blessings Rather Than Snubs
During an interview with Time, the ‘Barbie’ director finally opened up about the Academy filtering her and Margot out of their respective categories. The 40-year-old screenplay master revealed that she is happy for the collective acknowledgment ‘Barbie‘ received. She shared a surreal moment saying, “A friend’s mom said to me, ‘I can’t believe you didn’t get nominated. I said, ‘But I did. I got an Oscar nomination.’ She was like, ‘Oh, that’s wonderful for you!’ I was like, ‘I know!'”
Although she missed a personal nod for Best Director, the film secured nominations in multiple other categories. To name a few ‘Barbie’ is nominated for Best Picture, Best Production Design, and two nominations for Best Original Song for Ryan Gosling and Billie Eilish. Other than these Ryan Gosling is also nominated for Best Supporting Actor along with America Ferrera for Best Supporting Actress.
While Greta is counting her blessings on her snub she still feels disappointed for her friend, “Of course I wanted it for Margot,” she said continuing, “But I’m just happy we all get to be there together.”

Margot Robbie’s Take On Oscar Snubs
Margot Robbie, who not only played the iconic Barbie but also served as an executive producer on the Warner Bros biggest film, echoed Greta’s sentiments. While on the SAG screening of ‘Barbie’ Robbie expressed contentment despite the notable snub.
She said, “There’s no way to feel sad when you know you’re this blessed.” Continuing, “Obviously, I think Greta should be nominated as a director” calling it a “once-in-a-career, once-in-a-lifetime thing.” The Golden Globe winner accepted that “it’s been an incredible year for all the films.” As the Oscars night approaches, Greta and Margot share a collective sense of accomplishment as a team rather than individuals.
