‘Oppenheimer‘ won big at the 2024 Oscars, taking home all the big wins and bagging two first time Oscars for Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr. The team of ‘Barbie‘ however took home just one award out of the eight awards the film was nominated for, extending debates on how Greta Gerwig’s masterpiece deserved better.
As Jimmy Kimmel took the stage for his Oscars monologue, the comedian touched on the subject of ‘Barbie’s snubs. Here’s what he said.

Perhaps the most disappointing outcome of the 2024 Oscar nominations was how ‘Barbie‘ got snubbed in most of the major categories. At the Oscars though, it only became worse as the blockbuster film only took home one Oscar out of all the categories.
The snub, however didn’t go unnoticed by host Jimmy Kimmel. During his monologue, Kimmel said, “Here we are all dressed up celebrating the best of the best beginning with Barbie,” referring to Gerwig’s film as a “monster hit.”
“What an achievement to take a plastic doll no one even liked anymore… Now Barbie is a feminist icon thanks to Greta Gerwig who many believe deserved to be nominated for best director,” the host said.
As the audience applaused at that, Kimmel added, “I know you’re clapping, but you’re the ones who didn’t vote for her by the way. Don’t act like you had nothing to do with this.”
“And I don’t want to leave out Margot Robbie. Margot put this giant hit together,” he continued. “Again, Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling are here tonight. Look kids, it’s Barbie and Ken sitting just near each other.”
“Ryan and Margot, I want you to know that even if neither one of you wins an Oscar tonight, you both already won the something much more important: the genetic lottery,” he joked.

Disappointment Over ‘Barbie’ Getting Snubbed By The 2024 Oscars
Fans of ‘Barbie‘ were dejected at Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig’s snubs at the nominations list for the Oscars. It got, however, worse as the film went home with no major category wins, except for Billie Eilish’s win for ‘What Was I Made For‘.
Fans on social media quickly took to X to express their disappointment.

Another user talked about the film’s impact and how it still remained unacknowledged.
the barbie snub is extremely disappointing. this is the exact reason why this movie was made yet time & time again the academy has proven it went right over their heads. this movie will always be a phenomenon & has changed so many lives. we are tired of the same 3 movies winning

Users also pointed out that the Oscars used ‘Barbie’ for promotion tactics and ended up snubbing all the categories they were nominated for.
Not the #Oscars using the likeness of #Barbie for the entirety of promotion for the show and throughout the duration of the show just to have it be the BIGGEST snub ever across all categories…

The cast of the film has yet to speak on the snubs. Nevertheless, it’s uncanny how the most successful and impactful film of the year went home empty handed at the biggest award night.
