President Joe Biden had a meeting with the singer after her moving speech in Washington DC. Biden’s wife, Jill Biden, and U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy were also present there. On Thursday Biden tweeted a clip from his and Gomez’s meeting. “Mental health is health. To everyone who is struggling, know you are not alone,” he wrote on Twitter. “For Mental Health Awareness Month, we sat down to discuss how we can wipe out the stigma and expand access to care to ensure everyone can get the support they need.” Biden praised her for her work in lifting “the burden off people” dealing with similar issues.

Biden assured her that the government is working on mental health issues and trying to improve the condition. They are providing resources available to people and even in school. He said “People look at you and say, look at this talented person, and she’s telling me she had a problem? Oh, well, I guess that it’s OK to ask for help,” to Gomez before he encouraged her to thank her mom. Gomez’s mom was present at the meeting.

Selena Gomez had a long chat with the American president. The conversations were made public by Biden on Twitter. “I really do believe that we can make change, and it starts at the places where people spend the most time,” Gomez said. “I mean, our youth spends so much time with their friend communities, mainly at school.” She continued, “I don’t take my platform lightly. I’m not perfect. I’m human. I have things that I walk through. That’s why I feel like people like me, hopefully, can be the other side of the voice and say, ‘Hey, I don’t look like I’m done up every 5 seconds. I don’t have it all put together. I have had to work through this. I’ve tried everything to escape this feeling. So why pretend that I have it all put together?'”

She further said, “Mental health is very personal for me, and I hope that by using my platform to share my own story and working with incredible people like all of you. I can help others feel less alone and find the help they need, which is honestly all I want.” The singer shared Biden’s video and thanked him, and called the meeting “such an honor.”

Gomez’s company Rare Beauty also advocates for the cause. They partner with mental health experts to provide help to people dealing with mental issues.
