‘Joker: Folie à Deux‘ was already performing terribly at the box office as it drowned in negative criticism. However, a scathing review from scriptwriter Paul Schrader seems to have sunk the ship altogether. The thriller was released in cinemas on October 2, and within its second week, it already seems a major flop.
Schrader claimed that he couldn’t bear to watch the film and walked out after a few minutes. With the legacy of the first installment, ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ miserably failed the built-up expectations. Here’s what Paul Schrader spoke of Todd Phillips’ thriller.
Paul Schrader Left To Shop In The Middle Of ‘Joker: Folie À Deux‘
‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ is battling off a thread of negative criticism. However, none could recover from Paul Schrader’s sharp comments on the film. Talking with Jeremy O. Harris for Interview Magazine, the writer said, “I saw about 10 or 15 minutes of it. I left, bought something, came back, saw another 10 minutes. That was enough.”
Schrader’s 1976 ‘Taxi Driver’ became the inspiration for the 2019 ‘Joker’. However, the writer seems immensely displeased with the second part, as he deemed it to be “a really bad musical“.

‘Joker’ made a worldwide box office collection of $1 billion in 2019. Moreover, the film won Joaquin Phoenix his Academy Award. However, its sequel seems to lose around $150 million in cinemas within its short time of screening in cinemas.
Paul Schrader Doesn’t Like Lady Gaga And Joaquin Phoenix
Paul Schrader’s discontentment does not seem to end in the film. The writer is not fond of the actors themselves. Joaquin Phoenix reprises his role as Arthur Fleck in ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’, and finds his love in Harley Quinn played by Lady Gaga. Schrader stated, “I don’t like either of those people.” However, the writer did not mention the cause of his dislike.

The writer continued, “I don’t like them as actors. I don’t like them as characters. I don’t like the whole thing. I mean, those are people who, if they came to your house, you’d slip out the back door.”
‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ has so far made a global collection of $210 million worldwide.
