After a night of drinks, the actor found himself intoxicated and unable to navigate his way home. However, just when he thought he was stranded, a woman offered him a ride.
In a foggy state of mind, Pacino accepted her offer. However, as they drove, something felt off and he realized she wasn’t heading toward his destination. “I said to her, ‘What is going on here?’ And she said straight out, ‘I’m kidnapping you,'” Pacino wrote in his memoir Sonny Boy.
At this point in his career, Pacino was already a household name thanks to his breakthrough performance in ‘The Godfather’. So, he quickly realized that the situation wasn’t a case of flirtation gone wrong. He immediately began thinking of ways to escape.
“When I see some crazy person trying to do something to me, I know how to escape,” he explained. Without hesitation, he confronted the woman and threatened to jump from the moving car. “I said, ‘No, you’re not. I’m getting out.’ She said, ‘No, no,’ and she kept driving,” Pacino added.
So, he threatened to jump out of the car which ended up working to his favor. “I was a little drunk, but I was ready to leap from a moving car if I had to. This ain’t happening to me, man,” he explained. The woman eventually relented, closed the car door, and drove him home safely.
