Al Pacino appeared on the BBC Today program on October 15 to promote his book ‘Sonny Boy’, when he revealed that he would have liked to see his 1983 ‘Scarface’ performance receive an Oscar nomination. He said, “I would have liked to have even got nominated for that one.” Al played the famous Miami drug lord Tony Montana in the crime thriller.

Al received a Golden Globe nomination for ‘Scarface’ but it seems he wanted the Academy Award committee to recognize the film too. The actor won his Oscar a decade later for ‘Scent of a Woman’. Besides the 1992 film, Al has been nominated for eight Academy Awards over the course of 30 years.
Al Pacino Reveals He Could Have Been Fired From ‘The Godfather’
Al Pacino’s autobiography ‘Sonny Boy’ has been making headlines since its publication as it reveals various details from the actor’s life. One major revelation left ‘The Godfather’ fans startled as the actor writes he could have been replaced for the role of Michael Corleone. The actor candidly said on BBC, “Sure, why not. I’m not irreplaceable.”
Al stated that before filming ‘The Godfather’, Paramount questioned whether the actor was the right fit for Michael’s character. He even suggested the actor who could have replaced Al in the epic film, “Bob [Robert] De Niro comes to mind.”

All added, “When your director talks to you and says you’re not delivering and you hear the chirping all around you start to feel like, I don’t think I’m wanted here’, I didn’t know whether what I was doing was right or wrong but they were losing patience.”
However, everyone came on board after director Francis Ford Coppola told Al to “put the gun in the toilet”. The bathroom scene became one of the most memorable moments in the trilogy.
