Alyson Hannigan, the beloved actress best known for her role as Lily Aldrin on the hit sitcom ‘How I Met Your Mother‘ (HIMYM), is getting nostalgic. Over the years, Hannigan has charmed audiences with her comedic timing.
Her on-screen chemistry with Jason Segel, and, of course, her perfect portrayal of the fiercely loyal yet adorably quirky Lily, has won millions of hearts. But what if there was a way to revisit the ‘HIMYM‘ universe but with a fresh twist? The actress has an interesting idea.
Will We See Marshall And Lily Again?
If this spinoff were to happen, it wouldn’t be the first time ‘HIMYM‘ has tried to expand its universe. You might remember the recent attempt with ‘How I Met Your Father,’ starring Hilary Duff, which aired for two seasons before being canceled.
That show even featured cameos from some of the original cast members, including Cobie Smulders, Neil Patrick Harris, and Hannigan’s real-life husband, Alexis Denisof. But for Hannigan, watching ‘How I Met Your Father‘ was a tough pill to swallow. “I just couldn’t,” Hannigan admitted. “It just made me sad because I’m like, oh, that’s the same set.”
So, could this new spinoff idea be the HIMYM revival fans have been waiting for? With Hannigan and Segel’s undeniable on-screen chemistry and the endless comedic possibilities that Marshall’s character brings, it just might be.
In April, Alyson Hannigan, also known for her memorable role in the ‘American Pie‘ franchise, commemorated the 10th anniversary of the controversial ‘HIMYM‘ finale.
Alyson Hannigan Pitches A New Idea For ‘HIMYM’
Alyson Hannigan recently opened up about her brand new idea for the beloved show in an interview with People. She teased a potential HIMYM spinoff that would flip the script and make Marshall, played by Jason Segel, the central character.
Instead of Ted Mosby narrating his epic love story to his kids, it would be Marshall, the big-hearted lawyer from Minnesota, recounting his life adventures. And, of course, with Lily being the love of his life, she’d be by his side. Hannigan’s pitch is simple yet brilliant.

Imagine Marshall kicking off each episode with, “No, no, no, kids. That’s not how it happened,” Hannigan jokingly suggested during her interview. She added, “And then it starts out with, ‘We were a lot older, first of all…’ and then we can just do the show again.”
It’s an intriguing idea, especially for fans who always felt Marshall’s story deserved more of the spotlight. Plus, as Hannigan rightly points out, “Everybody tells the story differently.”
