Andrew Garfield suffered a heavy loss when he lost his mother, Lynn Garfield in 2019. Previously, Garfield had revealed that he could relate to ‘We Live In Time’s emotional plot as he himself was coping with the loss of a loved one. Garfield was very close to his mother and even brought her to attend the 2017 Oscars.
The actor is grateful that no unsaid business was left between him and his mother before her death. ‘The Social Network’ actor gave the credit to Jessica Chastain for making this happen. The duo was filming for the documentary, ‘The Eyes of Tammy Faye’ at the time, and he revealed how Jessica Chastain rescheduled filming for Garfield during Lynn’s final days.
Andrew Garfield Recalls How Jessica Chastain Rearranged The Schedule Last Minute For Him
Andrew Garfield worked with Jessica Chastain for the 2021 film documentary ‘The Eyes of Tammy Faye’. Garfield was recently speaking to People, when he revealed how Jessica rescheduled filming so he could visit his mother during her final days. Lynn Garfield passed away in 2019 due to pancreatic cancer.
He said, “What was amazing was that [Searchlight Pictures’ David Greenbaum] and Jessica rearranged the schedule last-minute — put filming on hold for a few days so that I could go back [to England] and be with my mom for 10 days.”
The crew was filming in North Carolina, USA. Garfield played the evangelist Jim Bakker alongside Jessica who played, the 70s television icon, Tammy Faye. Andrew recalled talking to his co-star, Vincent D’Onofrio before he left to see his mother.
He said, “Because he had his own experience with a loss that he wasn’t able to make it back for, he said, ‘Go. You got to go.’ And I was like, ‘Well, I know I’ve got to go and thank you.”
Jessica Chastain And Andrew Garfield Had A Ritual While Filming
Andrew Garfield revealed that he and Jessica Chastain had a ritual while filming ‘The Eyes of Tammy Faye’. The actors wanted to get into the spirit of the television evangelist. Therefore, Garfield and Chastain weekly visited the now-closed Christian theme park created by Tammy and Bakker.
Garfield said, “It was a beautiful ritual. Every Sunday, we would go down there. And it was a combination of trying to commune with the spirit of Jim and Tammy and the place where they set up their temple, in a way, to their god but also to themselves.”

He continued, “It became a bit of a detective pursuit because there were people, like security guards and people there who used to work for Jim and Tammy. So we were able to get access to more information, and so it was really funny and it was very deep.”
Garfield became very close with Jessica while filming, “We would have deep conversations, because we were both getting to know each other as people.” He concluded,” I’m really very grateful for that time with her because it was the time when my mum was really sick and ultimately passed away.”
