Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt‘s separation took a new turn as their 18 year old daughter, Shiloh Jolie Pitt decided to drop her father’s surname from her name as she came of age. While this turned heads and many questioned Brad’s relationship with her, it also added a new layer to the age old Brad vs Angelina family feud that has been going on since years.

Why Did Angelina Jolie Not Stop Shiloh From Changing Her Surname?
Despite being her mother, Angelina Jolie cannot speak up about Shiloh Jolie dropping her father’s surname from her name, simply because the 18 year old is taking matter into her own hands by hiring a lawyer of her own.
According to sources, “Shiloh hired her own lawyer and paid for it herself, so Angie doesn’t know and can’t speak for it.” The source also added that she did this the day she turned 18. Since this legal issue is being handled by her and her alone, Jolie isn’t stepping in between and letting her daughter do things her own way.
Shiloh, who previously went by the name Shiloh Jolie Pitt, will go by Shiloh Jolie after the name change. She is, however, not the first of Brad and Angelina’s kids to do this. Previously, their daughter Zahara Marley Jolie Pitt started going by Zahara Marley Jolie. Of recently, Vivienne Jolie Pitt also was credited in a Broadway show she produced as Vivienne Jolie instead.

Why Did Shiloh Jolie Change Her Name?
According to sources, Brad Pitt’s history of abuse is one of the reasons why Shiloh took this legal step, separating herself from Brad as a father post his divorce from Angelina Jolie. Sources claim that Brad’s relationship with the kids have been “a sad situation for years,” adding that “Many times, there have been long gaps where he didn’t see the kids at all.”
As the couple are continuing to fight the legal battle, Jolie has also accused Brad of being abusive towards her and the kids, that were downplayed by Pitt’s lawyers as being “misleading” and a “distraction.”
