With anticipation building for Matt Reeves‘ sequel, ‘The Batman Part II’, fans are eager for every new tidbit that surfaces about the upcoming film. Despite delays pushing the release back nearly a year, updates continue to arrive, keeping excitement alive.
Confirmed to return to the film are Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne, Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle (Catwoman), and Andy Serkis reprising his role as Alfred Pennyworth. Yet, one character’s involvement remains a question mark, Barry Keoghan’s Joker. Now, Keoghen himself has spoken about the possibility of him joining ‘The Batman’ again.
Barry Keoghan Is Up For ‘The Batman Part II’ If Given The Opportunity
Barry Keoghan, who portrayed an Unseen Arkham Prisoner in ‘The Batman’, hinted at his character’s potential backstory during a recent appearance on the HappySad Confused podcast. Director Matt Reeves later confirmed that Keoghan’s character was indeed the Joker.
However, Barry shared that no plans for his return have been set in stone. “It’s a big one, but I am going to say that, if the opportunity came about, yes, I’d love to explore, and given the opportunity, really dive into it. But I have not been contacted, I’ve not heard anything,” Keoghan said.

During his time on the podcast, Keoghan revealed that while filming ‘The Batman’, he developed an idea for his Joker’s origin. Though he didn’t elaborate on what that backstory entails, fans are left to imagine how this new vision might differ from previous cinematic iterations.
A deleted scene released by Warner Bros. on March 24, 2022, gave audiences a look at Keoghan’s Joker. In it, Pattinson’s Batman engages in a tense interaction with the Joker. Moreover, while rumors have hinted at a potential return, nothing has been confirmed as of now.
James Gunn Previously Shut Down Rumors Around A Joker TV Series Featuring Barry Keoghan
Adding fuel to the speculative fire, reports emerged suggesting that a Joker-centric TV series was in development as part of Reeves’ growing Batman universe. The idea of a show that would bridge ‘The Batman Part II’ and ‘The Batman Part III’ had fans buzzing. ‘The Penguin’s success only added fuel to the fire.
However, James Gunn, co-chief of DC Studios, was quick to dismantle these rumors. Gunn dismissed the idea outright on his official Threads account. “A Joker series is not being discussed nor has even come up at this time,” he wrote.

According to reports, the rumor stemmed from an episode of the Marvelvision podcast. It claimed that Gunn and Reeves were collaborating on a project focused on Keoghan’s Joker. The premise was likened to ‘The Penguin’. Sadly, no such show is being discussed.
Gunn swiftly debunked this, stating, “Turn on Threads and everyone is asking me about this. No, there is absolutely no truth to this.” For now, fans will have to be content with Keoghan’s cryptic hints and Reeves’ carefully planned rollout of ‘The Batman Part II’.
