Billy Porter Attacks Harry Styles For Being The First Solo Man To Cover Vogue

In 2020, Harry Styles made history by becoming the first solo male to appear on the cover of American Vogue. The December 2020 issue of Vogue featured Styles on the cover, challenging traditional gender conventions in fashion and igniting debates about gender fluidity and expression.

The cover, which featured Harry in a gown, garnered praise for its proactive perspective and contribution to defying cultural norms about fashion and self-expression. For its relevance in the fashion and entertainment worlds, the cover drew both acclaim and attention. But it seems there’s one person who continues to be sour about Harry Styles’ feature in the magazine. Here’s what Billy Porter had to say about the issue.

Billy Porter Slams Harry Styles’ 2020 Vogue Cover

Billy Porter, known for his outspoken views on LGBTQ+ inclusion, has revived the controversy surrounding Harry Styles’ 2020 Vogue cover. Porter blasted Styles and the magazine in an interview with The Telegraph for what he saw as cultural appropriation and the use of the LGBTQ+ community for self-promotion. The Pose star, who had already expressed his displeasure with the cover, reaffirmed his feelings, accusing the cover of using his community to glorify Styles.

Porter voiced concerns about true representation and the impact of exploiting marginalized populations for personal benefit.

“You’re using my community — or your people are using my community — to elevate you. You haven’t had to sacrifice anything,” he added.

Billy Porter had a previous conversation with Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief of Vogue. He revealed that Wintour had asked him for advice on how to advance representation. Porter described the conversation, stating his conviction that Vogue has the potential to advocate fashion de-gendering and elevate leaders in the movement.

Currently, Styles is on his last concert of ‘Love On tour’. The tour will conclude on August 14, 2023, after a two-year run in which he performed in front of over 2 million people in 32 countries. The tour was a major success, both critically and economically, and it solidified Styles’ position as one of the world’s top stars. The concert ended up being one of the highest-grossing concerts of all time, surpassing Coldplay, Rolling Stones and U2.

The tour began in September 2021, just a few months after Styles’ second studio album, Fine Line, was released. The tour’s collection included songs from ‘Fine Line’ and Styles’ debut album, ‘Harry Styles’ as well as songs from his critically acclaimed third album ‘Harry’s House’. It also included a few covers, including a version of Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain” that quickly became a fan favorite.

He has also recently been in the spotlight for his rumored relationship with Taylor Russell.
