After bringing the ‘Saturday Night Live‘ audience to their knees with a hilarious recent sketch, Bowen Yang and Ariana Grande are unpacking the details of their surprise kiss scene on the show. While ‘SNL’ has had its fair share of controversial moments, the latest comment that Bowne made about his appearance with Ariana Grande on the show is sure to add to the list of controversies.
Bowen Yang recently apologized to Ariana Grande after his ‘Charades with Mom‘ sketch with her on ‘SNL’ went hilariously wrong. Here’s what happened and why Yang is apologizing.
Bowen Yang Confesses To Opening Up His Mouth “Too Much” With Ariana Grande
Bowen Yang apologized to Ariana Grande about what happened on the sets of SNL during their performance. The star mentioned that he is sorry about “opening his mouth too much” as he performed with her.
“Just to switch gears: I really have to apologize to you in person. I opened my mouth up too much when we kissed on SNL,” Yang told his ‘Wicked‘ co-star as she appeared on his and Matt Rogers’ Las Culturistas podcast.
Grande responded, “You absolutely did. I was shaking with laughter. No, no, no, not in a bad way! Not in a bad way — just in a disarming way.” The sketch had Yang sparring with his boyfriend’s mother, played by Grande, in an intense game of charades that devolves into an all-out brawl before they break the “crazy tension” with a kiss.
“I kissed you too much,” confessed Yang. “You know what? That’s okay. …. We were dropped in, and it felt like what these people needed at that time. It felt like what these characters required, and I’m all for it.”
The ‘SNL’ Kiss With Bowen Yang Was Ariana Grande’s Idea
Interestingly, the kiss Bowen Yang talked about was never written in, as Ariana Grande told MTV News, adding that she actually thought to include it herself after their first rehearsal. “I didn’t say anything because I was like, ‘Oh, everybody’s gonna think I’m completely insane and too comfortable” But I was like, ‘Oh, how funny would it be if we kissed at the end?'” she recalled.
“And then Bowen texts me a few hours later and was like, ‘It’s totally fine if this is way too crazy, but we were talking, and thought it would be so funny if we kissed at the end,'” Grande added. “And I was like, ‘Wow. I was thinking that.’
